Meet the Author

Raised by his mother and grandparents—along with his younger brother—in Lake Charles, Louisiana, Jaylon J. Martin was born on January 15, 2001. From a very young age, he knew he wanted to be a storyteller, ever since watching Beauty and the Beast and listening to his mother read to him every night. He became a multi-published author while still in high school, releasing his first book at just sixteen. At eighteen, in recognition of his achievements in writing and publishing, Jaylon was inducted into the Lake Charles Black Heritage Hall of Fame—his first accolade as an author.

Jaylon J. Martin graduated with the Class of 2019 from Lake Charles College Prep. He went on to major in English–Writing at McNeese State University. Highly involved on campus, he served as a Rowdy Rider, SGA senator, and founder of the pop culture organization Fanatics at McNeese. He was also an active member of the NAACP, the Black Male Initiative, and several other campus organizations. In December 2023, he earned his Bachelor of Arts in English–Writing.

Jaylon J. Martin has written science fiction, horror, fantasy, and poetry, never limiting his storytelling to a single genre. His work is loosely inspired by both personal experiences and the entertainment that shaped him.

Some of his favorite movies include Divergent, Scream, and Beauty and the Beast. His favorite television series include Buffy the Vampire Slayer, WandaVision, and True Blood.

When he’s not writing, Jaylon enjoys going on walks, listening to country music, or surrounding himself with his favorite thing in the world: horses. Twice a month, he visits a ranch in Carlyss, Louisiana, called Almosta Ranch, where he feeds and bonds with the horses. One in particular, a stallion named Beau, considers Jaylon his “human best friend.”
